Alan Fahringer (@alanfahringer) shared his unusual addition to the holiday spread: President Donald Trump’s face sculpted out of cheese, fruit and meat. The post has since garnered 112,000 views on Threads.
"My sister said, “Alan, two things, no politics at Thanksgiving and please bring a cheese platter.' I’m like, 'OK,'" the post read.
His sister’s boundaries reflect the anxieties felt by many Americans at the moment. With political beliefs more polarized than ever, holiday gatherings can become tense when family members with opposing viewpoints sit around the same table. For many, the safest rule is to keep politics off the menu entirely.

A 2024 survey by Gallup found that 80 percent of U.S. adults believed Americans were “greatly divided” on the country’s most important issues, while only 18 percent thought the country was united.
Nonetheless, Fahringer’s gastronomical creation managed to put politics directly on the platter, in a humorous way. For some viewers, it formed a lighthearted bridge for the gap between left and right. For others, it only deepened it.
Threads users were divided in their reactions.
"Trump's profile aside, that's the worst looking charcuterie board I've ever seen," said one user.
"This is excellent but really there needs to be way more cheese on it than this," said BD Wong.
"I don’t care which side of the aisle you are on. This is funny," said Sue Smith Holman.
