The Toronto Blue Jays made a blockbuster move on Wednesday night when they reportedly agreed to a deal with free agent star Dylan Cease. The Blue Jays added him on a seven-year, $210 million deal, according to Jon Heyman.
This move comes after the Blue Jays won the American League East and American League pennant last season. As a result, the New York Yankees are under a lot of pressure to make a move to keep pace with the Blue Jays going forward.
...The Yankees were already seemingly a step behind the Blue Jays. They finished the regular season a few steps behind them, and it continued into the postseason. The Blue Jays bounced the Yankees from the postseason to end their season.
Now the Blue Jays have taken a step forward, and the Yankees have stayed in place.
The Yankees need to add an outfielder to replace Cody Bellinger. They need to add to their bullpen in a big way after the unit had a rocky season this year. They could afford to add to the infield, too.
They could look to target Bellinger in the outfield while trying to land a deal with Bo Bichette in the infield. There are a few other stars on the market that could make sense, too.
Either way, the Yankees need to improve their roster because the gap between them and the Blue Jays is only getting wider.
