A Manchester City talent just needs to free his mind to blossom

Oscar Bobb has only made 44 appearances for Manchester City since being promoted to the City first team set-up. Despite missing the majority of the 24/25 season due to a fractured leg, Bobb has shown that he has all of the talent needed to make it at City. He just needs to believe in his ability to take his game to the next level. Pep Guardiola has spoken about the importance of Oscar Bobb backing himself as a player. If the young winger does that he could quickly become an important first-team player for Pep Guardiola’s side.

Pep Guardiola has spoken of the importance of Oscar Bobb to his squad and what Bobb needs to do to take his game to the next level.

Speaking during the embargoed section of his pre-game press conference ahead of Manchester City’s Premier League clash against Newcastle, Pep Guardiola spoke about Oscar Bobb and how important he is to his team. The City manager also explained that the young winger needs to believe in himself to take his game to the next level. Speaking on Oscar Bobb, Pep Guardiola explained: “Sometimes you have less minutes [because of] competition or we play a little bit different, but I have a lot of [good] opinions about him.”

“He played first few games, he played well defensively, the high pressing and his intuition is extraordinary and the moment he is freeing his mind, I know he can do it.“

“The last few games for Norway he played really, really good and I missed him last season a lot and he’s going to help us.“

“He will be back and when he plays, he’s going to be really good.“

“Last season he had pre-season but was injured, so this is the first time he plays more minutes in a team like City.“

“He is so young and has to take it step by step and take the minutes we give him, [will be] the best for the team and for himself.“

Oscar Bobb has shown that he will get there as a City player.

Everything about Oscar Bobb screams that he is, and will be, a consistent Manchester City player. He has the technical ability to thrive in the City set-up. As a Cuty academy graduate, Bobb is indoctrinated in the City way. Bobb’s ability to play in the pockets and half spaces in the final third is exceptional. In time he will blossom and Manchester City will have a serious player on their hands.

But Oscar Bobb isn’t there yet. Once his confidence grows, he will become a more well-rounded and complete player. That process will take time. Especially when you factor in the serious injury Bobb sustained last season. There have been glimpses of Bobb’s quality throughout this season. He has also put in performances that show just how far he has to come to become a key player at City. That is the life of a young player and that is exactly what Oscar Bobb is.

To get to the next level as a player  Oscar Bobb needs to develop the self-belief that all of the great players have. To get that, he will firstly have to play on a regular basis which Pep Guardiola stated that Bobb will. From there he needs to back his ability and once Bobb does that he will become the player that he has promised to be since he rose through the City academy system.
