Evaluation:
Vann possesses something that I’d like to see all of UofL’s skill position players have—the ability to return kicks and punts. I’m not looking for them to do this for the Cards, but it shows a level of athleticism and skill that helps with the evaluation of the player. Vann makes people miss in the open field when he’s not just outrunning people. His ability to make these types of plays as a 6-1/195 safety bodes well for him to be able to develop into a player who can cover in the slot and possibly grow into the hybrid safety role Antonio Watts plays, currently.

He can high-point the ball in contested situations, and he can run with receivers in man coverage situations. A play that stood out to me is early in his Hudl video, where he diagnoses the route combination and closes on a running back in the flat from about 15 yards away. He makes a very nice tackle for a loss on the play. It was a heady play combining his awareness of the play and his athleticism. He projects as a player who can see the field early on special teams.
