As Iowa football's (8-4, 6-3 Big Ten) 2025-26 regular season has come to a close, fans who have been following the chaotic recruiting journey of 2026 three-star quarterback Cash Herrara can close the book winding saga, as the 6-foot-3, 207-pound native of La Jolla, Calif., announced on Dec. 2 that he has chosen to commit to Boise State.

Herrara, who attends The Bishop's School in La Jolla, is listed as the No. 84 player in the state and No. 58 quarterback in the 2026 class, according to 247Sports' composite rankings.

In his senior year at The Bishop's School, Herrera passed for 2,791 yards and 30 touchdowns and threw 9 interceptions while completing 60.6% of his passes, according to MaxPreps. He also rushed for 438 yards and 9 more scores.

Originally committed to the Hawkeyes from Oct. 3, 2024, Herrera was part of Iowa's crowded quarterback room until his decommitment on July 16. He would subsequently switch his pledge to Indiana on July 22, where he would remain until his Nov. 20 decision to decommit again and leave the Hoosiers' class for Boise State.

The announcement by Herrera completes an unintended yet ironic quarterback swap between the Hawkeyes and Broncos, as 2026 four-star Tradon Bessinger committed to Iowa on Nov. 8, after he withdrew his pledge from Boise State.

While Hawkeyes fans can celebrate the ironic recruiting swap as a "victory", Herrera is expected to join a talented quarterback group in Boise that already includes three-star Jackson Taylor in the 2026 recruiting class.

As for Iowa's immediate future, the No. 23-ranked Hawkeyes will have to wait until Dec. 7 to find out where they will play their postseason ball game this year and who the opponent will be.
