Is a Michigan State wide receiver transfer a good idea for Notre Dame?

Now that the college football regular season is over, and both the coaching carousel and transfer portal are heating up with Notre Dame looking to take full advantage of certain situations.

The Irish found a temporary fix for their wide receivers this fall with Virginia transfer Malachi Fields, but unfortunately, none of the younger players at the position have stepped up. The good news is that Jaden Greathouse won’t lose a season of eligibility, as he battled injuries this fall and the staff thought it was the best move to redshirt him. He’ll still have a chance to play in the postseason as well, so that’s good news on all fronts.

Fields was a graduate transfer, so he’ll be off to try to make an NFL roster next fall. Not many prospects have entered the portal but a potential Notre Dame target did on Monday in Michigan State’s Nick Marsh. The Spartans decided to move on from John L. Smith and hired former Northwestern head coach Pat Fitzgerald to lead the program. Wildcats didn’t throw the ball much under Fitz, and probably will be more of a ground-oriented attack once again.

That made the sophomore decide to leave the program after catching 100 passes for 1,311-yards and 9 touchdowns during his two seasons. Marsh has a big frame at 6-foot, 3-inches and 203-pounds, and would fit perfectly into the spot vacated by Fields.

It will be interesting to see how Notre Dame goes about targeting players in the transfer portal, and Marsh could be one of its top priorities.
