Spoiler Alert: This list contains spoilers for Wicked: For Good.Wicked: For Good, the reimagined and expanded version of the beloved Broadway musical, brings new life to the story of Elphaba (Cynthia Erivo), Glinda (Ariana Grande), and the magical land of Oz. With its mix of classic favorites and brand-new numbers, the show continues to captivate audiences by exploring themes of friendship, power, and personal growth, all while delivering unforgettable music. The expanded score introduces fresh perspectives on familiar characters, deepening our understanding of their motivations and struggles.

Music has always been at the heart of Wicked, and For Good takes that to a new level. Each song in the show, whether a soaring ballad or a playful ensemble number, is carefully crafted to illuminate the story and the characters’ inner lives. Original favorites from the second half are given new lives, and new songs add further context to these characters and their stories. Together, these songs create a rich musical tapestry that is as entertaining as it is thought-provoking.

11 "March of the Witch Hunters"

"March of the Witch Hunters" is an ensemble number in which a group of Ozians, led by Boq (Ethan Slater), rouse themselves into a mob determined to hunt down Elphaba, now known as the Wicked Witch. Fueled by fear, misinformation, and a desire to blame someone for their troubles, they convince themselves that eliminating her will solve their problems. It's clear that Boq, in particular, holds Elphaba responsible for all of his problems and is intent on seeking revenge.

"March of the Witch Hunters" is the worst song featured in Wicked: For Good because it shows the ugly side of this world. It's impossible to ignore the hatred that leads to this angry mob as they target someone who they frankly know nothing about. It's frankly alarming to see this angry mob whipped into such a frenzy with seemingly little provocation. This song is effective in highlighting the threat Elphaba faces, and the fact that there was never an option to reason with people who gleefully seek out violence.

10 "I'm Not That Girl (Reprise)"

In "I'm Not That Girl (Reprise)," Glinda reflects briefly and poignantly on her feelings for Fiyero (Jonathan Bailey) after realizing that he truly loves Elphaba. Unlike the wistful tone of Elphaba's original version, Glinda's reprise is sharper and more self-aware, acknowledging the painful truth that she is not the one he has chosen. The moment underscores Glinda's internal conflict, including her heartbreak and jealousy, as well as her growing understanding that love and destiny are not hers to control.

While this song is incredibly effective at setting up Glinda's emotional stakes in Wicked: For Good, it's far too short. The real devastating moment comes when Glinda gives Madame Morrible (Michelle Yeoh) the idea to target Nessarose (Marissa Bode), knowing that Elphaba will do anything to help her sister. It's a shame that Glinda isn't given more time to process her own emotions after realizing that Fiyero will never love her. While the juxtaposition of Glinda's version works well with Elphaba's, this song moves too fast to leave a lasting impact.

9 "The Girl in the Bubble"

"The Girl in the Bubble" is one of the two new songs added to Wicked: For Good. It's an introspective solo for Glinda where she confronts the artificial, privileged life she’s led, symbolized by her iconic floating bubble. In the song, Glinda reflects on how her "beautiful life" has been built on façades and lies, and she begins to question what it really means to be "good." She wrestles with the discomfort of her public persona, acknowledging her guilt, her privilege, and how she’s been complicit in the Wizard’s (Jeff Goldblum) propaganda.

While "The Girl in the Bubble" adds important context to Glinda's story and gives her a chance to reflect on her life, it falls flat when compared to other moments when she's given the chance to do the same. This song doesn't add anything specific to Glinda's story. The more effective moment for Glinda to reflect on her past, including how her upbringing influenced her, is when she recalls a childhood birthday party when she was so desperate to be accepted by her peers that she lied about having magical abilities.

8 "The Wicked Witch of the East"

"The Wicked Witch of the East" is a tense, emotional song in which Elphaba tries to save her sister Nessarose after a disastrous spell intended to help her backfires. As Nessarose realizes that Elphaba's magic has unintentionally caused the conditions that will lead to her own downfall, long-buried resentment and guilt erupt between the sisters. Boq, caught in the middle, becomes a tragic casualty of Nessarose's desperation for love.

This is another example of a song that's all too brief. Nessarose is clearly struggling, and has channeled her grief and emotional turmoil into an obsession with Boq. This song gives one of Wicked: For Good's most compelling characters a brief moment in the spotlight. Unfortunately, there's not enough time to fully unpack what Nessarose is going through. What breaks through is how much pain she's in at this moment, and how she doesn't see a way out of it.

7 "Thank Goodness /I Couldn't Be Happier"

"Thank Goodness / I Couldn't Be Happier" from Wicked: For Good is a layered musical sequence that contrasts Glinda's public persona with her private emotions. As she is celebrated by the citizens of Oz and lauded for her engagement to Fiyero, Glinda presents a cheerful, polished front, insisting she "couldn't be happier." However, beneath the upbeat façade, she struggles with growing doubts, guilt over Elphaba's vilification, and the realization that her perfect life feels hollow.

This is an important song in Wicked: For Good because it gives Glinda a chance to reflect on the reality of her situation outside the concerted propaganda effort she's in the middle of. This song humanizes Glinda and what she's going through. It ultimately makes Glinda easier to empathize with. It's also easy to see that, while she's benefiting from her position, she's also being used by those in power. This is a tragic song that highlights how little power Glinda really has over her own life.

6 "Every Day More Wicked"

Elphaba (Cynthia Erivo) on the Yellow Brick Road at the beginning of 'Wicked: For Good' Elphaba (Cynthia Erivo) on the Yellow Brick Road at the beginning of 'Wicked: For Good'Image via Universal Pictures

"Every Day More Wicked" is Wicked: For Good's first song, and sets the tone for the movie. The song immediately makes it clear that the second part of the story is far darker than the first. The people of Oz express their growing fear and paranoia that Elphaba is intent on targeting them. It captures the fact that the Ozians are on increasingly high alert as they are told repeatedly that Elphaba is their greatest threat. They cast Elphaba as a terrifying, dangerous figure spreading fear wherever she goes, seeking out victims, and undermining the Wizard with her supposed lies.

While "Every Day More Wicked" may not be quite as memorable as "No One Mourns the Wicked," it is no less critical to the story. This song gives viewers context on how this world has evolved in the time since Elphaba and Glinda went their separate ways. "Every Day More Wicked" makes it clear that there's a disconnect between the threats the Ozians actually face and who they feel is responsible for their circumstances. Ultimately, this is a sobering way to start this chapter of the story.

5 "No Place Like Home"

In "No Place Like Home," Elphaba delivers a deeply emotional ballad that grapples with her complex connection to Oz. She wonders why she loves a land that's never truly loved her, while declaring that Oz isn't just a place. It's a promise and an idea worth fighting for. Though the land may be under threat, she argues, its familiarity gives it meaning. She urges those who feel like giving up, especially the oppressed animals fleeing the Wizard's tyranny, to hold on.

In addition to serving as a tribute to The Wizard of Oz, this song is a chance for Elphaba to connect with the animals of Oz and lay out the stakes that they all face. This song is also a heartbreaking reminder that, as much as many Ozians do want to stay and fight to protect their home, their desire to protect themselves and their families is stronger. It's also a chance for Elphaba to showcase what a strong leader she is as she tries her best to rally her fellow citizens.

4 "Wonderful"

"Wonderful" is a charming yet revealing song in Wicked: For Good in which the Wizard explains his own rise to power and the philosophy behind his public persona. Using an upbeat, theatrical flair, he tells Elphaba that people don't really want the truth. Instead, they want someone who seems "wonderful," even if that image is built on illusion. In Wicked: For Good, Glinda is also part of the song and does her best to convince Elphaba to join her and the Wizard as they build their version of a "wonderful" world.

"Wonderful" stands out in Wicked: For Good because it gives Elphaba a chance to really consider her options. Putting her at such a crossroads gives her a chance to show her true character. Elphaba's dilemma is clear since she obviously wants a family of her own. However, through the course of the song, she has to balance this desire with doing what she knows is right. This song is a chance to appreciate just how emotionally rich this character is.

3 "As Long As You're Mine"

"As Long As You're Mine" is an intimate duet between Elphaba and Fiyero in which they finally acknowledge and embrace their feelings for each other. The song captures a moment suspended from the chaos around them. This is a rare space where they allow themselves to be vulnerable and deeply connected. They describe being overwhelmed by emotion, choosing to live fully in the present even though they know their circumstances are uncertain and dangerous.

"As Long As You're Mine" is one of the most emotionally significant moments in Wicked: For Good. Until this moment, Elphaba and Fieryo have been kept apart by circumstances. Watching them take the time to connect in this way is heartwarming, since they've clearly been meant for each other from the beginning. This song is bittersweet, since it emphasizes just how long these two have been apart and the challenges they've had to face to finally come together.

2 "No Good Deed"

"No Good Deed" is a powerful, dark solo in which Elphaba expresses her frustration, anger, and sense of betrayal after being repeatedly misunderstood and vilified despite her good intentions. Following her failed attempts to help the citizens of Oz and challenge the Wizard’s corrupt regime, she vents her despair over the futility of trying to do the right thing in a world that punishes honesty and courage. The song captures her transformation from idealistic reformer to a figure increasingly labeled as "wicked."

"No Good Deed" is one of Wicked: For Good’s best songs because it delivers an intense emotional and musical climax that defines Elphaba's character. The song captures Elphaba's frustration, anger, and heartbreak in a way that feels immediate and relatable. Listeners feel the weight of her isolation and the repeated injustice she faces. It marks a turning point where Elphaba moves from hope and idealism to embracing the "wicked" persona forced upon her, giving the audience a deep insight into her psychology.
