Henry Cavill and Alan Ritchson are two of the biggest action stars in the world, and just last year, they teamed up for a WWII action thriller that has found continued streaming success. The Superman and Reacher stars feature alongside Eiza González and Henry Golding in The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare, which follows a group of skilled soldiers recruited by the British military for a special mission behind enemy lines. The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare is streaming exclusively on Starz in America, but globally, the film is charting in the top 10 on HBO Max in several countries around the world.

The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare reportedly cost around $60 million to produce, leaving the film with a break-even point of about $120 million. Unfortunately, it fell nearly $100 million short of this by grossing less than $30 million at the worldwide box office. The film was only moderately well-received by critics, who gave it a 68% on the aggregate site Rotten Tomatoes, but it was a massive success with audiences. It earned a Verified Hot 91% on the audience-driven Popcornmeter, but this strong fan reception wasn’t enough to sell theater tickets. It’s one of the more puzzling flops of the last few years.

Guy Ritchie wrote the screenplay for The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare and directed the film. Arash Amel, Eric Johnson, and Paul Tamsay made contributions to the script as well. Ritchie is famous for his work directing the beloved 2009 British mystery, Sherlock Holmes, and he also worked with The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare star Henry Cavill nine years before the film’s release on The Man from U.N.C.L.E., the James Bond dupe streaming on Prime Video.

What’s Going on With Henry Cavill and Guy Ritchie’s Next Movie?

Henry Cavill and Guy Ritchie wrapped filming on In the Grey well over a year ago, and although originally slated for release earlier this year, the film has been delayed indefinitely. The action thriller has been acquired for release by Black Bear, and the film’s producers were recently asked about its status, to which they said, “No comment.” This is certainly disappointing for Ritchie and Cavill fans. The actioner also stars Jake Gyllenhaal and Eiza González, but it’s unclear if it will ever see the light of day.

Be sure to watch The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare on Starz in America and HBO Max globally, and stay tuned to Collider for more streaming updates.
