LSU Tigers head coach Lane Kiffin has been busy over the past 24 hours as he rounds out his staff for the massive task and hand, while preparing for National Signing Day.

Kiffin left Ole Miss on Sunday, marking the start of his new chapter at LSU. The coach wanted to finish out the postseason with the Rebels, but the leadership decided against that and appointed another coach.

On the same day he was told he would not coach in the College Football Playoffs, Kiffin boarded a plane to Louisiana, moving on from his former team and starting his work on his next team.

Most of the Ole Miss staff joining Kiffin work on the offensive side of the ball or on player acquisition.

Reportedly, Ole Miss offensive coordinator Charlie Weis Jr., general manager Billy Glasscock, football operations associate Thaddeus Rivers, and head strength and conditioning coach Nick Savage are all Baou-bound.

This leaves multiple decisions on defense, which was LSU's stronger side of the ball this past season.

According to a report from Matt Zenitz of CBS Sports, Kiffin has decided to keep Blake Baker, who manned the defense for the Tigers last season, on his staff as the defensive coordinator.

Baker is a person of interest, per Bruce Feldman, in the Tulane head-coaching opening after Jon Sumrall left for Florida.

Still, with Kiffin seemingly deciding to keep Baker on board, the coach will likely stay, even if it means a raise for his impressive work.

The defensive mind is only 43 years old, and he has already led the defense at Missouri and now at LSU. The SEC requires a certain level of physicality for success, and Baker can bring that out of players while putting them in good positions to thrive.

Kiffin's teams always have an electric offense, though the defenses have been lackluster for the most part, other than his most recent units at Ole Miss.

He will need a capable person to lead that side of the ball, and Baker's resume makes him a key person for Kiffin to keep around.
