Wicked: For Good director Jon M. Chu explains Glinda's powerful ending in the sequel.
In an interview with EW, Chu offers new details on the final moments of the sequel, explaining that he intentionally leaves some questions up in the air regarding a handful of characters and ideas.
"Every character has to ask a question about reality at some point — and make a choice of which reality they're going to choose. [Ethan Slater's] Boq chooses a reality of hate as a community, and Glinda chooses a reality that she may never be good. I think it's this idea that we're both good and wicked. We're all of these things, and every day we make a choice about which one we're going to be."
As for whether Glinda now has magical powers, Chu chooses to keep the mystery alive:
"Elphaba giving Glinda the book is her saying 'You know the power that you have, and you know the truth. But there's no answer at the end of this movie, it's a challenge: 'What are you going to be?' We don't know what Glinda does, we just know the possibilities are beautiful."
More to come...
