Directed by Simon Cellan Jones, the action sequel serves as a follow-up to 2023's The Family Plan, which debuted directly on Apple TV.
After releasing on the streamer on November 21, a Rotten Tomatoes score has now taken shape, and The Family Plan 2 is currently rotten at 20%. This score was generated from only 10 reviews, though, meaning it's likely to fluctuate over the coming days as more reviews are added.
The sequel currently falls just behind the original in terms of critical consensus, with the 2023 film sporting a score of 29%, making it also firmly rotten. No Popcornmeter score for The Family Plan 2 has appeared yet, but the original fared better with audiences, enjoying a lukewarm 60%.
Starring Wahlberg as former government assassin Dan Morgan, the sequel moves the action to Europe, following Dan as he attempts to protect his family when his dark past catches up with him. Michelle Monaghan costars as Dan's wife, Jessica, with Kit Harrington, Zoe Colletti, Van Crosby, Peter Lindsey, and Theodore Lindsey also featuring.

Though The Family Plan reviews weren't very positive from critics, the film was a major win for Apple TV. The action comedy quickly became the streamer's most-watched movie of all time following its release, leading to a green light for the sequel. It's still too early for any viewership figures to emerge for Wahlberg's latest, but the film will likely be another success, even if it doesn't quite reach the heights of the original.
ScreenRant's own The Family Plan 2 review is scathing. Critic Gregory Nussen takes issue with just about every aspect of the movie, awarding the film a dismal score of only one out of 10. Nussen writes:
Simon Cellan Jones' follow-up to the 2023 film is so dire and comically flat that it induces existential dread. It is an experience akin to watching a two-hour credit card commercial.
Unfortunately, the poor critical reception to the sequel is in line with how a number of Wahlberg's recent efforts have been received. Reviews for Play Dirty (2025) were a little more mixed, but the film still has only a 43% Rotten Tomatoes score.
Similarly, Wahlberg's action thriller effort from earlier this year, Flight Risk, was also a disappointment, sporting a 29%. Before that, The Union (2024), another action comedy, earned a 35%. The actor's last well-received movie was 2024's Arthur the King, which impressed both critics and audiences with scores of 70% and 97%, respectively.
Despite The Family Plan 2 landing flat with critics, audiences evidently tend to enjoy Wahlberg's action comedy efforts. Over the next few days, it should become apparent whether the sequel is connecting with viewers.
