The Meaning Of The Girl In The Bubble

Glinda's new song on the released Wicked: For Good soundtrack comes at a pivotal point in her story, and the lyrics reflect the evolving feelings and purpose she is feeling. It starts with her looking at herself in the mirror and reflecting on her outward beauty, not only physically but materially. But this popular lifestyle no longer lines up with what she knows is right.
Using her giant bubble transportation device as a metaphor for how she's lived her life, Glinda's song is about her finally accepting that she can't turn a blind eye to the evil she's associated herself with just to have her dream life. She acknowledges the lies she's allowed herself to believe.
Coming to this realization is scary for Glinda, though. She's not sure what her place in the world will look like. But after doing anything to live in this facade, she's finally ready to pop her bubble and be part of the solution to the world's problems, rather than hiding from them.
"The Girl In The Bubble"'s lyrics showcase the transformation that Glinda makes so she can truly live up to her moniker as Glinda the Good. For her part, Grande is thrilled that the movie added the song to give viewers a chance to experience this powerful moment alongside the character:
