Real Madrid star a last-minute doubt to face Girona

La Liga giants Real Madrid could be forced to make do without the contributions of an important member of the club’s backline in their upcoming meeting with Girona.

This comes amid confirmation that Raúl Asencio is struggling with a bout of illness.

Stopper Asencio has for his part played an important role in Real Madrid’s defence of late, amid an ongoing personnel crisis in Spain’s capital.

As confirmed by Marca, however, the 22-year-old has emerged as a sudden ‘doubt’ to feature at the Estadi Montilivi on Sunday.

Asencio, it is understood, is dealing with a sudden ‘flu’.

Speaking during his pre-match press conference on Saturday afternoon, Asencio’s status to face Girona was in turn put to manager Xabi Alonso.

And the Spanish tactician went on to admit that, though the young defender has not yet been definitively ruled out, he faces a late fitness test ahead of the trip to Catalunya.
