Amazon's Upcoming Fantasy Adaptation Will Be The Ultimate Dragon Show

While Game of Thrones has previously held the title of the ultimate dragon TV show, Amazon's upcoming fantasy show will easily take the title.

Prime Video has one upcoming fantasy book adaptation that will be the ultimate dragon show, dethroning the Game of Thrones franchise. While there are numerous great fantasy creatures out there, something about the dragon has always captivated audiences. They persist across all forms of fantasy media.

When it comes to TV, the show most frequently associated with dragons is Game of Thrones. Part of this can be credited to the legacy of the fantasy show, but the story also features Daenerys, queen of the dragons. Her involvement allows for some epic dragon scenes.

However, one upcoming Prime Video TV show could actually dethrone Game of Thrones as the ultimate dragon show, and surprisingly, it’s not Fourth Wing.

The Bestselling Book Series Wings Of Fire Is Becoming A TV Show

The TV Show Is Expected To Follow The Dragonet Prophecy

The bestselling books Wings of Fire by Tui T. Sutherland are slated to become a show, and it’s one of the animated book-to-TV adaptations we’re most excited about. The project was originally with Netflix, but they scrapped it, allowing Prime Video to swoop in.

As of the time of writing, fifteen books have been published. They’re divided into three arcs: The Dragonet Prophecy, the Jade Mountain Prophecy, and the Lost Continent Prophecy. Another book is on the way, which will start the fourth arc. On top of that, there are two companion books that explore the history of the world, four novellas, and a guidebook.

This makes Wings of Fire one of the most expansive book series catered towards children that has been adapted for the small screen. Luckily, the show is in good hands. Aaron Waltke will be the showrunner, executive producer, and co-writer. The author will serve as executive producer and co-writer. Additionally, Marc Resteghini will executive produce.

Wings Of Fire Will Be The Ultimate Dragon Show For Audiences Of All Ages

Wings Of Fire Has Something For Everyone

Most of the focus when it comes to upcoming dragon shows is going towards Prime Video’s Fourth Wing, based on the hit book by Rebecca Yarros. There’s no doubt in my mind that Fourth Wing will be fantastic, and it will have the best dragon battles, beating out Game of Thrones. However, it’s only appropriate for adults. Wings of Fire is a captivating book series that’s appropriate for audiences of all ages.

Unlike Fourth Wing, the main characters of Wings of Fire are all dragons. The five friend dragonets in the Dragonet Prophecy are Clay, Starflight, Glory, Sunny, and Tsunami. The latter two arcs introduce new dragon main characters.

What’s more, the descriptions of the dragons and their sensory experiences are so vivid that the creative team on the show doesn’t even need to imagine what it’s like to live as a dragon. It’s all spelled out for them.

Wings Of Fire’s Worldbuilding & Large Cast Will Beat Out Other Fantasy Shows

The World Of Wings Of Fire Is Incredibly Expansive

One of the most exciting aspects of the Wings of Fire adaptation is its sheer scope. The world is divided into ten tribes with different cultures and rulers. These tribes have political conflicts and grudges that impact their global relations.

Consequently, Wings of Fire is very much an ensemble show with an intensely large cast. Only five start out as main characters, but the individuals we meet quickly grow in number.

While it’s technically a middle-grade book series, the story is much like Avatar: The Last Airbender in that it delves into deeper topics that impact the Wings of Fire world. The books explore pacifism vs. war, destiny vs. free will, identity, racism, and chosen family. These themes will resonate with audiences of all ages.
