Arizona Cardinals offensive coordinator Drew Petzing has been better but fans still aren't sure he's the man for the job.

It’s hard to disassociate Arizona Cardinals offensive coordinator Drew Petzing from the tallied total team losses on the 2025 NFL season. At 3-8, the Cardinals are finished, but Petzing has remained consistent in his job performance (sarcasm). Winning is the goal, and Petzing’s consistent inability to contribute to that cause has been continuously disregarded by head coach Jonathan Gannon who also seems indifferent about being on the hot seat this fall.

Cardinals fans, however, are ready to move on from Gannon and Petzing. Coaching and leadership seem to be a weak spot for the Cardinals, who were well in position to upset the Jacksonville Jaguars in week 12. Why was wide receiver Michael Wilson celebrating when there should have been a presnap discussion about spiking the football to stop the clock with 0:15 to go in regulation? Why was Gannon simultaneously staring with a blank face on team sideline as the team crumbled? The Cardinals were sacked six times for a net loss of 44 yards and their 1-3 ratio on red zone trips was pretty much the indicative stat that explains the outcome in the end.

Cardinals punter Matt Haack had six punts for a total of 299 yards in Sunday’s loss to the Jaguars. Petzing doesn’t coach special teams however, but the amount of punts the team needed in the most recent loss shines a very bright light on his offensive shortcomings. Almost simply doesn’t count, and unless “losing in style”  is a respectable milestone for the Cardinals’ franchise, there may be an incentive to consider moving on from Petzing as play caller.
