Makuochi Echebiri is a News Writer for Collider. He has been interested in creative writing from as far back as high school, and he would consume pretty much anything that’s film or TV. However, his truest love lies in the presence of historical epics and thrillers.
Lured by the brilliance of Middle Earth from an early age both in print and on screen, his palate has since expanded to other realms including Westeros, Kattegat among others. He also possesses a great appetite for the stories that emanate from the vastness of space. Even though he is no Avenger.
Obsessed with storytelling and having works of his own that have yet to make it to print, he is content to use that ability to communicate to as many as are reachable. In his spare time, he looks out for avenues where he can aid people aside from his plans to reign over this earthly realm. Yes…you heard that first here.

There's a reason Netflix has consistently topped its competitors as the biggest platform in the streaming business. For one, its catalog boasts a variety of classics, old and modern. Though its routine reshuffles send some favorite titles packing, users can always trust that compelling replacements are never far behind. Recently, the platform licensed the acclaimed espionage thriller seriesHomeland, and the impact has been immediate. Users have wasted no time in showing their pleasure with the new addition, as just days after landing on Netflix, the series has quickly surged into the U.S. Top 10 charts.
Homeland originally premiered on Showtime in December 2011 and was instantly recognized as a modern television masterpiece. Adapted from Gideon Raff’s acclaimed series Prisoners of War, the U.S. version was developed by Howard Gordon and Alex Gansa, who infused it with a dash of psychological drama, with the lead agent, Carrie Matheson, battling bipolar disorder. Season 1 debuted to a rare 100% critics’ score on Rotten Tomatoes, a momentum the series maintained throughout its ambitious eight-season run. Led by powerhouse performances from Claire Danes and Damian Lewis, with Navid Negahban in a key supporting role, Homeland also featured memorable turns from actors like Timothée Chalamet, Pedro Pascal, and Hugh Dancy. The synopsis for the first season reads:
"When CIA analyst Carrie Matheson (Danes) botches a field assignment in Iraq, she’s punished with a desk job back in Washington, DC. The one piece of usable information she got from her Iraqi contact before he was executed — that an American prisoner of war had been turned and now works for al-Qaida — is the one thing she can’t follow up on. Until a black ops raid on one of the homes of al-Qaida leader Abu Nazir (Negahban), where Marine Sgt. Nicholas Brody (Lewis) is found alive after seven years missing in action."
As Homeland expanded beyond its original premise, it embraced more complex geopolitical storylines while preserving the suspense elements that kept its ratings strong through eight seasons. A key part of its success was the show’s commitment to realism. Showrunner Gansa noted that the writers regularly consulted intelligence officers, State Department officials, White House staffers, and journalists in Washington, D.C. to keep the narrative grounded. The result was a series that became both a critical and cultural force, earning 6 Emmy Awards, 7 Golden Globes, and high-profile fans, including President Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton.
Another 'Homeland'-esque Show Is Arriving on Streaming Soon
As espionage remains one of TV’s most reliable fan-favorite genres, creators keep busy in attempts to craft the next classic, and one upcoming project promises to bear Homeland's DNA. Raff, the creator of the original series that inspired Homeland and a key figure in its production, is partnering with Apple TV on a new spy drama titled Safe Houses. Described as “a fast-paced espionage thriller set after the killing of a high-ranking CIA officer in Madrid,” the series is still in early development with no casting announcements yet. Stay tuned for more updates.
You can watch Homeland now on Netflix.
