Here is a fact-based summary of the story contents:
Try something different:
Show me the facts
Explain it like I’m 5
Give me a lighthearted recap
From Glen Powell and Edgar Wright taking audiences on a non-stop pulse-pounding journey through the dismal world of The Running Man to Francis Lawrence and a talented group of up-and-coming actors bringing viewers to their knees through the deeply emotional story in The Long Walk and Oz Perkins’ comedic cause-and-effect hellscape in The Monkey, 2025 has been a terrific year for Stephen King fans. The legendary author’s works have found themselves as the source material for a slew of new adaptations that are taking audiences by storm, earning big dollar signs at the global box office, and gaining critical acclaim. And, while the aforementioned movies are all terrific in their own way, there was one specific King adaptation from the last 12 months that will forever stick with us — Mike Flanagan’s The Life of Chuck. Soon, audiences in the U.S. will be able to stream the heartfelt film from the comfort of their own home when The Life of Chuck dances onto Hulu on December 26.
Without giving too much away, The Life of Chuck follows a reverse narrative, starting at the end of the story and moving backwards through the life of Chuck Krantz (Tom Hiddleston), a man dying of a brain tumor at the incredibly young age of 40. While Flanagan and King are known for their work together, with the filmmaker previously adapting other titles like Gerald’s Game and Doctor Sleep, The Life of Chuck is something completely different from what we’ve come to expect from the masters of horror.
Enlisting an epic call sheet for his latest foray into the world of King, Flanagan brought on multitudes of familiar faces from his so-called Flanafam ,as well as some new ones. The lineup of talent includes names like Kate Siegel, Matthew Lillard, Carl Lumbly, Michael Trucco, Mark Hamill, Jacob Tremblay, Karen Gillan, Mia Sara, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Samantha Sloyan, David Dastmalchian, Rahul Kohli, Annalise Basso, and more.
‘The Life of Chuck’s Feel-Good Message
Look, we absolutely love Flanagan for his work behind genre-favorite shows like The Haunting of Hill House, Midnight Mass, and The Fall of the House of Usher — as well as his spine-tingling cinematic productions that include Hush and Oculus — but there’s something lovely about the shift in tone found in The Life of Chuck. By the end of the movie, we dare you to not have a tear in your eye as you go on a journey that will make you look at the small wonders of your own life and the folks that helped you become the person you are today.
Head over to Hulu on December 26 to stream The Life of Chuck.
