One of the finest shows of the 21st century, certainly in its opening few seasons, Dexter is rightfully considered a masterpiece by many. However, the franchise's subsequent installments have proven much more divisive, with the ill-fated 2021 series Dexter: New Blood facing plenty of backlash for odd storytelling and a disappointing ending. Thankfully, the franchise's latest installment, Dexter: Resurrection, has made up for lost time, earning the same sort of critical response as the original series.
Following the October news that Resurrection was renewed for a second season, the series has returned to the iTunes charts, placing fifth at the time of writing. Bringing back Michael C. Hall in a decision that many were skeptical about, Resurrection defied the odds by silencing its critics with one of the franchise's best seasons yet. The series also boasts a plethora of exciting guest stars, including Peter Dinklage, Krysten Ritter, Eric Stonestreet, Neil Patrick Harris, Uma Thurman, and more. For anyone yet to see the series, a synopsis for Dexter: Resurrection reads:
"Weeks after taking a bullet to the chest from his own son, Dexter Morgan awakens from a coma to find Harrison gone. Realizing the weight of what he put his son through, Dexter sets out for New York City, determined to find him and make things right. But when Miami Metro’s Angel Batista arrives with questions, Dexter realizes his past is catching up to him fast. As father and son navigate their own darkness, they soon find themselves deeper than ever imagined."
'Dexter: Resurrection' Is a Hit With Critics
Sporting a near-perfect 95% score from critics on review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes, Dexter: Resurrection is one of the highest-rated shows of the year. The critics' consensus on the site reads, "Dexter brushes off a minor case of death and multiple false endings to reemerge as vital as ever in a knowingly absurd continuation that rediscovers the thrill of the hunt." In her review, Collider's Tania Hussain awarded the series an impressive 8/10, writing, "The writing is sharper, the characters are much more layered, and the moral dilemmas hit harder than ever. Sure, there’s still room to grow, but for now, Dexter: Resurrection is the gripping and fun revival of a story we thought was finished. Turns out, darkness never dies. It just gets smarter."
Dexter: Resurrection is streaming now.
