The dust is only just beginning to settle on The Morning Show Season 4, and, following that explosive finale, viewers are still picking their jaws up from the floor. One of Jennifer Aniston's best performances of the decade, The Morning Show might've felt the wrath of viewers on occasion, but the fourth season has earned the highest Rotten Tomatoes rating from audiences of the lot, and a rating almost five times that of Season 3. So, with that in mind, perhaps it's not a surprise that fans have seemingly rushed to check out Aniston's filmography following the finale.
At the time of writing, Aniston's 2006 comedy The Break-Up is the surprise addition to the current Prime Video top ten in the U.S. The movie starred Aniston alongside Vince Vaughn, with the two famously dating during production, in the aftermath of the Friends icon's public breakup with Brad Pitt. Directed by Peyton Reed of Ant-Man fame, the film was met with backlash from both critics and audiences upon arrival, and has just a 34% score from the former and 46% from the latter on review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes. The critics' consensus on the site reads, "This anti-romantic comedy lacks both laughs and insight, resulting in an odd and unsatisfying experience." A synopsis for the film reads:
"When Brooke (Jennifer Aniston), an art dealer, and Gary (Vince Vaughn), a tour-bus driver, finally call it quits in their relationship, neither is willing to move out of their shared condo. With their friends suggesting a series of underhanded tactics that fail to get either Brooke or Gary to cave in, the only solution is to become hostile roommates."
How Did 'The Break-Up' Perform at the Box Office?
The film might have faced backlash from audiences and critics, but that doesn't mean it was a box office flop. Released at a time when comedies were regularly topping the box office charts, that's exactly what The Break-Up did on its opening weekend, finishing top in the U.S. with almost $40 million. In total, the film earned an impressive $205 million globally, split between a domestic haul of $118 million and a further $87 million from overseas markets. The film even managed to finish the year as one of the 20 highest-grossing movies in the world.
The Break-Up is available to stream now on Prime Video. Make sure to stay tuned to Collider for the latest streaming stories.
