Ole Miss has just finished an off week and is in position to make the College Football Playoff for the first time.

Meanwhile fans of the Rebels, Tigers and Gators have six more days of waiting.

Are Lane Kiffin sweepstakes down to LSU, Ole Miss?

Pete Thamel of ESPN reported on "College GameDay" Nov. 22 that people close to Kiffin don't know what decision the Ole Miss coach is going to make.

But he said the Rebels' main competition appears to be LSU, which has focused its search on Kiffin. Thamel said Florida is conducting a wider search that includes Kiffin.

Lane Kiffin contract offer from LSU, Florida, Ole Miss expected to be huge raise

Lane Kiffin's current salary is $9 million. LSU, Florida and Ole Miss are expected to offer Kiffin in the $13 million to $14 million range, according to On3.

In addition the three schools are also expected to offer at least $25 million for NIL roster investment, according to the report.

What Pat McAfee said about Lane Kiffin decision

Pat McAfee said on "College GameDay" Nov. 22 that waiting on a decision has been tough on Ole Miss, Florida and LSU fans.

"This team that he has has been built through the transfer portal, which almost makes it worse for Ole Miss fans because if he were to leave basically every one of the good players they're thinking in their minds, they're hopping in the transfer portal with him," McAfee said.

"So not only are they going to lose the head coach of the team they're also going to lose all their good players in this entirety, so I think all the Ole Miss fans want is just to hear that he's going to be back and all LSU people want or Florida people want is like, is this guy going to be here for the transfer portal? He's the king of the transfer portal. That's in the middle of the playoffs."

What Nick Saban said about Lane Kiffin decision

Former Alabama coach Nick Saban said on "College GameDay" the football calendar is part of the problem. Kiffin was Saban's offensive coordinator from 2014-16.

"In the NFL you cannot leave your team until you are finished playing," Saban said. "You can't talk to another coach in the regular season. There's a defined time when you can talk to them if they're in the playoffs. That's the way it should be.

"We should match the academic calendar with the football calendar and we shouldn't have an early signing day that conflicts with people wanting to hire an early coach, a portal situation where you gotta hire an early coach, fire your coach early.

"None of this is fair to the players. So if we did all that in May and then had some kind of OTA days or something in the summer time instead of spring practice we wouldn't have all these issues and players could actually finish the year.

"So this is not a Lane Kiffin conundrum, this is a college football conundrum that we need some leadership to step up and change the rules on how this gets done in terms of coaching searches and opportunities for people to leave."

What Kirk Herbstreit said about Lane Kiffin decision

Kirk Herbstreit said on "College GameDay" the situation has been particularly difficult for Ole Miss fans, and added he thought Kiffin should remain as the Rebels coach.

"Maybe the best year in school history, and now you've got to deal with this on the side," Herbstreit said. "Ole Miss fans can't even celebrate the year that they are having because they're wondering if they are going to lose their coach.

"If this goes down next Saturday and he goes to LSU or wherever he might go, who's going to decide if he stays to coach potentially a home playoff game or are they going to tell him to go on his way?

"And wouldn't you want to go up to the players and say, 'You want coach to be part of' - he's going to LSU or wherever - I think every player on that team would say, 'We want to finish this year with our coach.'"

Pat McAfee's message for Lane Kiffin

Kiffin appeared on the "Pat McAfee Show" on Nov. 18. McAfee had a personal message for Kiffin on the "GameDay" set.

"If Lane Kiffin is listening, you're allowed to be happy and content brother, you're allowed to be in a place and have massive success, you're allowed to build a place from scratch, you're allowed to become a GOAT at a place," McAfee said.

"Lane Kiffin is the only one that's going to know what the hell he wants to do. I don't think he has a clue at this point."

What is Lane Kiffin's contract, salary?

Ole Miss' win against Oklahoma on Oct. 25 triggered an automatic contract extension for Kiffin.

Because it was Ole Miss' seventh regular-season win, Kiffin's state contract with the Ole Miss Athletic Foundation will be automatically extended one year on Jan. 1, 2026. His contract now runs through Dec. 31, 2031.

It is the 15th-most expensive buyout of the 105 programs USA TODAY Sports could review, and No. 7 in the SEC.
