The Detroit Lions are desperate for a win when they host the reeling New York Giants today in Week 12 at Ford Field in Detroit (1 p.m., Fox).

The Giants, on a five-game losing streak, are without electric rookie quarterback Jaxson Dart due to injury, instead turning to 11-year veteran slinger Jameis Winston for a second straight game.

The Lions (6-4) need a victory to keep pace in the NFC North Division.

Six Free Press sports writers make their Lions-Giants pick:

Dave Birkett

The sky isn’t falling for the Lions with three losses in their past five games, but they need to right the ship before December and this is the perfect opportunity. The Giants have played close games the past two weeks, but they’re not a good team overall. I expect the Lions to have their way offensively and for Jared Goff, Amon-Ra St. Brown and the running game to get back on track. The pick: Lions 34, Giants 17.

Carlos Monarrez

Dan Campbell hasn’t lost two straight in more than three years. That streak stays intact this week against the awful 2-9 Giants.

Yes, the G-Men have thrown a scare into their last two opponents, but an interim coach and a nebulous choice at quarterback aren’t scaring anyone at Ford Field, especially with the Lions’ defense allowing fewer than 17 points per game at home. Homefield plus dry turf will let the offense take advantage of its speed and get back on track. The pick: Lions 32, Giants 16.

Christian Romo

If you're worried about where the Lions have been headed the last three weeks, you can put your faith in a healthy offense, a defense that refuses to give ground despite injuries and Dan Campbell keeping this team as prepared as any other in the league. And remember – this Lions team does not lose two games in a row. The pick: Lions 31, Giants 17.

Rainer Sabin

The Lions’ offense was a mess during a 16-9 loss to Philadelphia last Sunday. The elixir that could help cure its problems may by the Giants’ leaky defense. New York is giving up 375.1 yards and 27.3 points per game, ranking in the bottom five of the NFL in both categories. Back in the cozy confines of Ford Field, Jared Goff and Co. should regain their footing. The pick: Lions 30, Giants 20.

Jeff Seidel

The Lions are in a critical five-day stretch. First up? They have to take down the Giants, which they will do. After that? It’s Green Bay on Thanksgiving Day. Obviously, another must-win game. But that’s getting ahead in the story. Dan Campbell will not let his team look ahead against the Giants. In fact, the Lions' offense will get back on track in a comfortable, feel-good win. The pick: Lions 35, Giants 17.

This is what they do, these Lions, at least this season. They overwhelm lesser teams, especially teams that struggle to stop the run, like the Giants. And while the Giants have been pesky — even frisky (for a 2-9 team) — Dan Campbell doesn't lose back-to-back games with the Lions. Besides, the Lions are home and have listened to the skepticism for almost a week. They'll be ready. The pick: Lions 34, Giants 19.
