A week filled with outside noise ended with Texas quarterback Arch Manning making school history.
AdvertisementAdvertisementAdvertisementManning became the first Longhorns player ever to throw a touchdown, catch one and run for another in No. 17 Texas’ 52-37 win over Arkansas on Saturday. He accounted for six total scores and threw for 389 yards, delivering a performance that had even program legends taking notice.
Manning said the record night only raised his expectations. “I left a lot out there,” he said. “I could have been more accurate.”
After Manning hauled in a first-quarter trick-play touchdown from receiver Parker Livingstone. Texas coach Steve Sarkisian turned to find Vince Young celebrating beside him. “He said, ‘Man, I wish I would’ve had that play,’” Sarkisian recalled.
Manning completed three passes over 40 yards, after having just two all season prior. DeAndre Moore, who caught three touchdowns, gave Manning’s grab a perfect grade. “Oh, 10 out of 10,” he said.
