Stephen King's adaptations have been getting a lot of attention lately, with the likes of the September-released The Long Walk and IT: Welcome to Derry, which is currently streaming on HBO Max. Not to mention, a few older ones have made their way to new streaming homes in the past few months, both in the U.S. and nationwide, drawing renewed interest from subscribers. Fans of the remarkable author will be delighted to know that another of these adaptations—the most unsettling series yet—will head to Netflix U.S. in December for the first time, half a decade after it was cancelled.

As recently reported, Netflix is set to license both seasons of Castle Rock, the sci-fi supernatural thriller series that was initially a Hulu Original in the U.S. With that, Castle Rock is scheduled to arrive on the streamer on December 16, 2025, marking the first time the sci-fi horror series has been away from its original home. It was released exclusively on Hulu across its two seasons in 2018 and 2019, sadly never got its planned third season, and was officially cancelled in November 2020.

Fans may recall that about five years ago, there were reports about Castle Rock's availability on Netflix; however, at the time, only a few international regions had begun picking up the show, including Asian territories like Hong Kong, Japan, and India. The series has departed since then. It's also worth noting that Castle Rock isn't licensed to Netflix from Hulu (Disney), but rather from Warner Bros. Television, which owns the underlying rights to the series. This makes it one of multiple pickups Netflix has from the production company; another recently announced addition is The West Wing, which is expected to land on Netflix U.S. in December.

Who Stars in 'Castle Rock'?

Created by Sam Shaw and Dustin Thomason, Castle Rock takes place in King's fictional town of Castle Rock, Maine, and comprises twenty mind-blowing episodes. The supernatural mystery series brought together a brilliant ensemble across these episodes, with the first ten (Season 1) starring André Holland, Melanie Lynskey, Bill Skarsgård, Jane Levy, and Sissy Spacek. Season 2, on the other hand, isn't a direct continuation of Season 1 but shifts the focus to Lizzy Caplan's Annie Wilkes in a reimagined origin for the Misery character, supported by Elsie Fisher as her daughter, Joy. Other stars featured were Paul Sparks, Barkhad Abdi, Yusra Warsama, Matthew Alan, and Tim Robbins.

Castle Rock debuts on Netflix U.S. in a few weeks. Stay tuned to Collider for more information.
