After spending a few years determining a path forward for the film in the wake of the star's death, Jason David Frank's Legend of the White Dragon finally has a new release window. The action movie has spent over a decade in development, with the original Power Rangers star collaborating with Bat in the Sun's Aaron and Sean Schoenke to develop a mature take on the classic superhero franchise, and the intent of launching a new universe of stories.

Frank, in his final role before his death, leads the Legend of the White Dragon cast as former superhero Erik Reed, who comes out of hiding to protect his family and his city from a powerful new villain known as Dragon Prime, played by Schoenke. Reuniting Frank with fellow Power Rangers alums Jason Faunt, Cerina Vincent and Ciara Hanna, production was largely crowdfunded and underwent two iterations, the second of which came after the lead star's death in November 2022, with its release delayed numerous times.

Now, during the Arrowverse Heroes panel at Motor City Comic Con, which was moderated by Joe Deckelmeier for ScreenRant, David Ramsey has revealed the release window for Legend of the White Dragon. The star began by expressing his gratitude to those who continue to ask about the movie, as he described Frank as being "one of the greatest humans that ever existed," praising the late star for his "spirit" and "soul" that can still be felt.

He then went on to reveal that "March is the last thing I've heard" for Legend of the White Dragon's release, acknowledging that the team behind the Kickstarter has aimed to keep supporters — which "a lot of people may be here" during the panel — as up to date as possible, but that progress on adjusting the movie in the wake of Frank's death has reached its conclusion:

David Ramsey: You've been hearing that for a while. For the past year and a half, it just took a lot to reshoot. Obviously, when he passed, we still had to get through two thirds, so it took a while, but last I heard, which was maybe in the summertime, we're looking at March.

Ramsey's update on Legend of the White Dragon largely falls in line with the last update given by others behind the film. This year has not only seen Schoenke offer a variety of emotional behind-the-scenes videos and photos of Frank on the movie's set, but also confirm in early 2025 that it was "picture-locked" and were just waiting for an answer from their distributor, Falling Forward Films.

While Ramsey's lack of an exact date may leave some cautious about whether to get their hopes up, his confidence in the new direction of Legend of the White Dragon's progress in the wake of Frank's death is still an encouraging sign of its progress. Much like the Heath Ledger-led Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus and Bruce Lee's Game of Death, losing its lead star a third of the way into production is not only an emotional setback, but a creative one.

Therefore, with Ramsey assuring that the team behind Legend of the White Dragon have found the best path forward for Frank's mature Power Rangers take and landed on a release window, the movie looks to be closer than ever to bringing audiences a fitting send-off for its star. Additionally, with various plans for a new Power Rangers incarnation, including a reboot film at Paramount and a live-action series at Disney+, the reception for Frank's film could see lessons pulled from it into future versions of the franchise.
