PHILADELPHIA -- It hasn't been as nightmarish as the 2024-25 season, but the Philadelphia 76ers are once again dealing with injuries to begin the 2025-26 season. Joel Embiid has only played six of a possible 15 games and Paul George has only played two of the 15 while Jared McCain hasn't looked like himself in the six games he's played. Others have missed time as well.

Yet, the Sixers are 9-6 and are ranked No. 11 in offense and No. 17 in defense. Philadelphia has dug deep to rally from deficits to give itself a chance in games and has shown off a lot of mental fortitude in big moments. It has been a big switch-up from the previous season.

Of course, the stellar play of Tyrese Maxey is a huge part of the equation, but coach Nick Nurse and his staff have found a way to handle things a bit better.

"Well, first thing I guess I would say is we got a lot more youth, and there’s some more athleticism and speed and stuff to at least go out there and be able to keep up, fight, guard, make some plays, so there’s that," explained Nurse. "I think the other thing is learn a little bit from last year, change a few things, and go from there."

The Sixers added younger pieces in the offseason with this being the focus. They wanted to get through the grind of an 82-game season and be successful with versatile pieces that can help right away and Nurse and Co. have to like what they have seen. This is a terrific start and it has to continue in order to be in the top 6 once the regular season comes to an end.
