The frustration around Florida State’s collapsing season has reached a breaking point, with fans loudly calling for the university to fire head coach Mike Norvell after Friday night’s 21-11 loss to NC State.

The defeat had four turnovers, eight penalties, and two costly muffed punts in the fourth quarter, the second of which set up NC State’s game-clinching touchdown with under two minutes left.
Since leading Florida State to a 13-1 record and ACC championship in 2023, Norvell and the Seminoles are just 7-16 overall and 3-13 in league play. They have not won a conference road game since that title season.
Despite the outcry, any move to dismiss Norvell would be costly. He signed an eight-year extension after 2023 that runs through 2031 and carries a buyout exceeding $53 million, which is currently the fifth-highest in college football. Norvell is guaranteed 85% of his remaining base and supplemental pay if fired, payable in a lump sum or installments.
