The LSU Tigers Men's basketball team continued their strong start to the year with a 99-73 home win over the Omaha Mavericks. This wasn't supposed to be a close game, but it's still nice to see the Tigers answer the call when facing lesser opponents.

The real test will come in just a couple of weeks when they face their first ranked opponents in the No. 15 Texas Tech Red Raiders on December 7. There are a couple more "tune-up" games before that, but LSU does not have the luxury of taking any game for granted right now.

The Tigers advance to 5-0 on the year.

Dedan Thomas Jr. continues to look like a fantastic addition to the roster by Matt McMahon out of the transfer portal, coming over from the UNLV Rebels.

Thomas had 15 points on 5-of-8 from the field with a rebound and 10 assists. He's the best point guard that the team has had in years.

The hope was that McMahon would be able to unlock even a portion of what he was able to accomplish with Ja Morant with the Murray State Racers. Thomas is the closest that he's gotten to that with the Tigers.

Max Mackinnon gets the game ball, though, with his best showing of the season. Mackinnon scored 22 points while shooting 6-of-8 from deep. With Thomas and Mike Nwoko dominating the paint, LSU needs the spacing that he offers.

The Australian has shown the ability to carry an offense in the past. He scored 43 points for the Portland Pilots last season.

The Tigers will continue their 2025 campaign next Friday, Nov. 28, against the Drake Bulldogs.
