For ABC13's Athlete of the Week, we feature players from Dawson High School's volleyball team, which is playing for the first state championship in school history.

"The mindset going forward is just winning at all, flat out just winning it all, playing together and just winning it," senior Avery Koonsen said.

Koonsen is clear on the mission ahead.

"They play for each other," head coach Lauren Leth said. "It's a superpower, is what we say all the time. Our superpower is how much we love each other."

And when you share that superpower with your teammates, the tough things are easier because you do it together.

"We are sisters, like our coach has used our superpower, and we know that we're not like any other team," Taylor Ranney said. "Everyone of us is friends with each other. We don't yell at each other. We love each other so much."

The Eagles' bond has been built over many years of playing together, with three pairs of sisters on the team, including the Ranney twins.

"I've known some of these girls for like my whole life, like since kindergarten, and we've been playing together for so long," Sloan Ranney said. "At this point, it's just, like, unreal."

On Saturday at 4 p.m. in Garland, Dawson faces the number one team in the nation with one last time together for the 17 seniors and head coach Lauren Leth.

"This team is different than any team I have coached in 18 years," Coach Leth said. "While I've loved all of them, this team just has something so special."

The Eagles can make history and create one final memory as sisters.

"Everyone on this team feels like sisters, feels like a really special moment and something I'm never going to forget, Taylor Ranney said. "We just choose to do it for the people, so that it's their one last time," senior Jenna Thedford said. "And we have one more game to give it our all."
