Black Friday sales are ramping up with the retail holiday close at hand, and that extends to streaming services. On Friday, Apple announced the beginning of a new limited-time offer that will allow Apple TV subscribers, new and old, to get six months of the premium streaming service at $5.99 per month, than half the normal price. This deal is now available through the official website through December 1, giving customers a little over a week to take advantage of it. However, it's worth noting that anyone who is eligible for the three-month free trial with the purchase of an Apple device or is billed through a third-party platform will not have access to the lower price.

The deal is a welcome reprieve after the tech giant imposed a 30% price hike back in August, raising the monthly cost from $9.99 to $12.99. It marked the third increase for the service in the past three years, a reflection of what Apple touted as a vastly bolstered catalogue since Apple TV first launched in 2019. Customers will still have to pay that increased price at the end of their six months, but it's a rare chance to cut that bill down significantly. The move may also be a fitting way to reintroduce the streamer to customers since it dropped the plus from its name last month, embracing "a vibrant new identity."

Apple TV has established itself as a place for prestige television across all genres, with perhaps its most well-known series right now being the acclaimed Severance, which debuted its long-awaited second season earlier this year. Sci-fi has been an especially big winner for the platform, boasting not only the Adam Scott-led series, but the Lee Pace-fronted Foundation, Rebecca Ferguson's Silo, and most recently, the buzzy Pluribus from Breaking Bad creator Vince Gilligan. Its award-worthy fare goes beyond the genre, though, with Seth Rogen's Hollywood-centric comedy The Studio dominating with 13 Emmy wins for its first season earlier this year, The Morning Show becoming one of the streamer's most enduring dramas, and Slow Horses delivering spy thrills, earning a renewal through Season 7. In terms of films, Apple TV also has an impressive catalog there, too, with Tom Hanks's Greyhound under its purview, as well as Mark Wahlberg's action sequel The Family Plan 2, which just released today, and the Brad Pitt-led F1 racing onto the service in December. That's all without mentioning a lineup of children's content, ranging from classics like the Peanuts franchise to newer favorites like The Sisters Grimm.

Apple TV Continues to Delve Into Live Event Streaming

Like its streaming rivals, Apple TV has also been delving further into the world of live events. For a few years now, the service has boasted Friday Night Baseball games, carrying select, high-profile match-ups throughout the MLB season. However, starting in 2026, it will become the exclusive home of Formula 1 races in the U.S. after inking a five-year, $750 million megadeal for the rights. Major League Soccer also has an agreement with Apple that runs through the 2028-29 season. The tech company continues looking for ways to expand its entertainment offerings, too, previously looking to the NFL for a potential deal.

Visit the official Apple TV website for more information on how to take advantage of the new Black Friday subscription deal. Stay tuned here at Collider for more on new developments surrounding the streaming service.
