Olivia Shepstone (@ovshepstone), 26, a receptionist, shared a video of her now-boyfriend Lewis Perry grinning the moment he saw her for the first time. The clip has garnered 45,900 likes and almost 700,000 views.
Shepstone told Newsweek that she had been hesitant about dating again, saying her past experiences had left her feeling defeated. “I was a bit skeptical as my relationship and dating history wasn’t great and I’d given up hope. I said to my friend Valentina that if this doesn’t work out then I’m giving up but she convinced me to go anyway and I’m glad she did,” she said.
She also explained that she and Perry first connected on the dating app Hinge in May 2025. She reported that it felt like a strange coincidence: although they were both originally from Bristol, they were living in Cornwall and had never crossed paths before. She said she had been feeling lonely and missing home, so meeting someone from her hometown “felt meant to be.”
...Cornwall is a coastal county in southwest England known for its beaches, fishing towns and rugged scenery. Bristol, meanwhile, is a major city about 150 miles northeast of Cornwall.
According to Shepstone, they spent a month talking before arranging their first date—a breakfast outing followed by a walk around Falmouth Harbour. Perry picked her up, which is when the doorbell footage was recorded. She said he appeared “so nervous and really quiet,” adding that it was obvious he was trying hard to think of things to say.
Small gestures stood out to her, such as opening her door, making sure her drink was never empty and paying for the date.
She said that Perry wasn’t her usual type, but that only increased her interest given her “not so great choices in the past.”
The date “flew by,” and she recalled how he nervously asked if she would like to go out again. She agreed, and the pair have been together ever since. She added that it felt “crazy” to realize that dating apps can actually bring together “kind, genuine people” who aren’t looking for just one thing.
She said they had even joked that the doorbell video might be played at their wedding—an idea that now feels entirely possible.
TikTok users were quick to swoon over Perry’s reaction.
“Babe that’s your future husband look how he looks at you that man was in love in that moment,” said Stacey.
“Oh bless him, he even rang on your doorbell, the amount of guys that would beep outside or be half way down the road lol,” said Gemma.
“This is the type of man we all want in our lives,” said Georgina.
“Bless him. definitely a keeper young lady,” wrote another viewer.
“Some bloke, can tell he's anxious with hands in his pockets, but that smile shows he relaxes straight away,” added another user.
