After Michigan State football made a coaching change from Jonathan Smith to Pat Fitzgerald, the new Spartan head man had a ton of work to do to keep the 2026 recruiting class together.

Lakewood (OH) and St. Edward product Brayden Thomas was one of those recruits that Fitzgerald was tasked with keeping in the class. Thomas initially said that he was reopening his recruitment, evaluating his options. Now, he will be signing with Michigan State.

Michigan State initially flipped Thomas from Iowa State to earn the commitment of the Ohio product. A 6-foot-1, 175 pound safety prospect, Thomas ranks as a 3-star recruit. He held notable offers from Colorado State, James Madison and Toledo, aside from MSU and ISU.

The decision comes after a conversation the safety had with Fitzgerald.
