But on Tuesday night, they used effort to make up for that disparity and upset their Atlantic Division foes at TD Garden in a gutsy 123-117 win.
Boston held an 18-point lead heading into the fourth quarter, but that soon dwindled, and it felt like deja vu. Celtics fans will remember the Green Team blowing multiple double-digit leads to the Knicks during the 2025 Eastern Conference Semifinals, a series in which they lost in 6 games. There was no encore performance on Tuesday, though — much to the delight of the TD Garden crowd.
AdvertisementAdvertisementAdvertisementThe C's held on down the stretch thanks to some clutch offensive rebounds from wing Jordan Walsh and timely buckets from star Jaylen Brown. In fact, Brown sealed the win with a wide-open dunk with 2.3 seconds remaining in the fourth quarter.
That bucket gave him 42 points, which was enough for a season-high. Walsh finished with 8 points, 6 rebounds, and 1 block while forward Mikal Bridges led the way for New York with 35 points in 34 minutes.
Following the gritty victory, the Celtics have won four of their last five games and are 12-9 overall. This is the first time they've been 3 games over .500 all season.
