Gregory RaucoulesWed, December 3, 2025 at 3:11 AM UTC·1 min readSEVIERVILLE, Tenn. (WATE) — With two county teams competing for state football championships, the Sevier County School System has tweaked its schedule to allow more students and families to attend Friday’s title games in Chattanooga.
The school district has opted to make Friday, December 5 an administrative day with Sevier County and Gatlinburg-Pittman competing in the Class 5A and Class 3A championship games, respectively. There will no school on Friday for students and the instructional day will be made up on Thursday, May 28.

The Gatlinburg-Pittman Highlanders will compete in 3A state championship game for the first time in school history, facing off against Westview High School at 11 a.m. The Sevier County High School Smoky Bears will play for their second straight Class 5A title against Page High School at 7 p.m.
“Two county teams playing for the state championship is a truly once-in-a-lifetime experience that we would love for families to be able to experience,” a statement released by the school system said.

The announcement added that the change will also ease logistical issues that could arise due lack of staff, substitutes, and bus drivers available.
AdvertisementAdvertisementAdvertisementA send-off for Gatlinburg-Pittman players and coaches will be held on Thursday at 8:15 a.m. on the school’s campus. Sevier County’s send-off will take place at the school on Friday at 12:20 p.m. Community members are invited to cheer on both teams as they travel to Chattanooga.
