Christmas came 23 days early, folks.

The No. 6 ranked team in the College Football Playoff is your Ole Miss Rebels (11-1, 7-1 SEC). Even with the weird media narrative about coaching changes possibly affecting its ranking, all the worries and concerns were quickly put to bed as the Rebels improved by one spot from last week.

Ole Miss is coming off a blowout win in the Egg Bowl over Miss. St. but fell just short in making it to the SEC Championship, which will be between No. 3 Georgia and No. 9 Alabama. Best case scenario there is Georgia gets revenge from its one loss and further elevates the only loss Ole Miss has to date in my opinion. Alabama winning kind of muddies the water a bit, and I would not want to see the Crimson Tide somehow hop over Ole Miss in the very last set of rankings.

The really good news is that our friends at FanDuel Sportsbook now no longer have odds on the Rebels to make or miss the CFP, so in every sense of the word, it’s a lock.

There are still odds to bet on if you really like to live dangerously. Ole Miss to win the national championship is +2500 right now on FanDuel Sportsbook. A really good way to spend the $100 bill your grandpa gives you every year at Christmas even though you’re 28 now.

Currently, the rankings do not have an opponent for Ole Miss, so to me that’s a forfeit and we’re automatically in the quarterfinal thanks bye. There’s a chance it could be Virginia if it wins the ACC or it could be a James Madison or North Texas potentially coming to Oxford if nothing changes.

As cliche as it sounds, still a lot of football to be played in the next week, but the Rebels are in and just await who will take the sideline across from them.
