After an 8-0 start, the Colorado Buffaloes spot in the first NCAA NET rankings is surprising, especially the teams ranked around the Buffs.

Colorado basketball is off to arguably its best start in program history, sitting at 8-0 before a pivotal road matchup against Colorado State this upcoming Saturday.

The Buffaloes have three solid wins against San Francisco, Washington, and, most recently, Cal Baptist. Other wins have come against lower-ranked competition.

Colorado's offense has propelled them to a stellar start, averaging over 90 points per game. The defensive performances have been less than ideal, but they looked better over the Thanksgiving games against Washington and San Francisco.

Overall, head coach Tad Boyle has to like what he has seen from his freshman-heavy Buffaloes squad early on. The national metrics, specifically the recently released NCAA NET rankings, signal a similar sentiment. The team is all the way up at No. 39 in the nation, with a 0-0 record against Quad 1 opponents, 2-0 vs. Quad 2, 3-0 vs. Quad 3 and 3-0 vs. Quad 4. The resume-based ranking differs from KenPom and ESPN's Basketball Power Index, which rank the Buffaloes No. 64 and No. 82, respectively.

The Buffaloes get a chance to add a massive Quad 1 win to their resume when they travel to Colorado State on Saturday.
