This wasn’t what Notre Dame wanted to see on Tuesday evening, after holding strong the last few weeks at No. 9 in the College Football Playoff rankings.
The Irish ended its season with a very good win over Stanford, but it wasn’t enough to keep the slot they had held for the previous weeks, dropping to No. 10. It was Alabama jumping Notre Dame this time, as they rose to the spot that the Irish had held, and now has put some doubts around if they will be included in the field of 12-teams.

Another team potentially throwing a wrench into Notre Dame’s chances is BYU, who will take on Texas Tech in the Big 12 Championship on Saturday afternoon. If the Cougars win, you’d have to expect that the Red Raiders would still be in, considering they’re ranked No. 4 at this moment, and that conference getting two teams in could make things very interesting for Notre Dame.
The Irish could be the odd-man out, but there is still another weekend of football to be played. The conference champions will be crowned, and we’ll find out shortly after if Notre Dame is one of the twelve teams to make it into the CFP.
