Vanderbilt quarterback Diego Pavia, along with teammate Cade McConnell and comedian Theo Von, was a guest Dec. 1 on the "Bussin' with the Boys" podcast, hosted by former Titans players Taylor Lewan and Will Compton.
Pavia addressed a number of topics, including reports that the Commodores flipped quarterback Jared Curtis, a Nashville Christian senior and the nation's top-ranked quarterback, from Georgia. He shared his thoughts about the College Football Playoff, Vanderbilt coach Clark Lea signing a contract extension, pleaded his case for the Heisman Trophy, and talked about his brothers being arrested at games this season.

What did Diego Pavia say about Jared Curtis?
"Word on the street is, he's coming," Pavia said a day before reports surfaced on Dec. 2 that he'd be flipping from Georgia to Vanderbilt. "I pitched it to Jared Curtis when I got to see him. On one of our bye weeks, I went to one of his games. That kid's arm is live. He is nasty . . . He's going to take the college football world by storm."
What Diego Pavia said about Jared Curtis' hairdo
When Compton made fun of Curtis' hair, he asked Pavia whether he'd advise him to style it differently.

What Theo Von said about Jared Curtis, Vanderbilt football
"We tried to flip him the other night, like a hotcake," Von said.
"Vanderbilt, it's just the best, man. It's right here in town. I got to meet so many great guys."
What did Diego Pavia say about the Heisman Trophy?
"Are you the best or not?" he said. "It's plain and simple, right? We need people to look at the reality of it and say, 'Who's the best player in college football through 12 games?"

After the Commodores defeated Tennessee on Nov. 29, Pavia, who said he broke his nose during the game, pleaded his case when he said during a postgame interview: "Take me to New York."
Pavia said he'd bring his mother and Von among his group to New York should he be named a finalist.
What Diego Pavia said about Vanderbilt, College Football Playoff
"You got to put us in," Pavia said. "There's no other 10-2 SEC team that's not in. Look at our losses, too. Not saying losses are fine, but we played Texas, who beat the No. 3 team (Texas A&M) in the nation the other night. Then you look at Alabama, they're in the SEC championship. We were the best two-loss team in the country."

Both of Pavia's brothers, Roel and Javier, were arrested earlier this season for public intoxication at a Vanderbilt home game. Javier, the older brother, was arrested on the same charge in Knoxville on Nov. 29 when the Commodores beat the Vols 45-24.
"Albuquerque (New Mexico) is like a real-life GTA (Grand Theft Auto), so it's always been normal to us," Pavia said of his family's hometown. "Then like, the first two years (we're in Nashville), we're like, 'We have to chill out.'
"Last year we beat Alabama. We're going on a freaking crazy run. Kentucky, they're running wild, too. It was like, 'Hey, we need to calm down. Everything's going out of control.' . . . My brother only stayed sober for the Alabama game and the Texas game (both of Vanderbilt's losses this season). I let them be them."
AdvertisementAdvertisementAdvertisementWhat Theo Von said about getting to know Diego Pavia's family
"A lot of my family has lived in halfway houses over the years," Von said. "You meet a lot of people who are going through it and getting back into the community.
"I don't know if there's ever been a family like (Pavia's) in college football. Front row, willing to get arrested. It doesn't even have to be an amazing play, and you're willing to do down in chains. It's pretty unbelievable.
"They're running options in the stands. Javier, he'll run an out route up 20 flights of bleachers. It's just like, 'What's going on?' "

"He deserves it," Pavia said. "This is his hometown. He can recruit anyone around the country now that we're winning."
