Texas A&M (11-1, 7-1 SEC) ended the regular season on a low note after losing to rival Texas (9-3, 6-2 SEC) 27-17 on Friday night, as the Aggies will now wait and see where they end up in the College Football Playoff, likely slated to drop two or three spots after sustaining its first loss of the year.
However, this weekend's SEC Championship game between Alabama and Georgia could determine where the Aggies end up in the final rankings, which will be released on Sunday night.
AdvertisementAdvertisementAdvertisementMany, including myself, believe that one loss against a ranked team on the road after a perfect 11-0 start shouldn't drop the Aggies more than two spots to No. 5 ahead of Tuesday night's latest rankings release.
Still, based on several respected college football analysts' opinions, the Selection Committee's opinion could significantly alter, resulting in as low as a 7-seed for the Maroon & White.
On Monday night, CBS Sports' Bud Elliott released his initial CFP projection, placing the Aggies as the 7-seed, matched up against, you guessed it, 10-seed Notre Dame. After defeating the Fighting Irish 41-40 in South Bend earlier this season, Notre Dame has not lost since, and would head back to Kyle Field for the second time since defeating the Aggies during the 2024 season-opener.
While this is just a prediction, I could definitely see the committee wanting a rematch after this season's memorable matchup, but I still doubt the Aggies will fall below No. 6 in the final two rankings.
