On Tuesday, ESPN's Adam Schefter reported that the Pittsburgh Steelers and veteran cornerback Darius Slay have mutually agreed to part ways. The Steelers benched Slay in favor of Brandin Echols and James Pierre and Slay believes he can still be a starter in this league. Slay was a healthy scratch last week against the Buffalo Bills.
Slay was one of the Steelers big free-agent signings of the offseason. However, Slay's inability to stay healthy and his struggles to keep up with the speed in the NFL made him a liability on the Steelers defense. Pittsburgh's defense has struggled all season long, with the cornerback position being a weak point much of the season.
This week, the Steelers take on the Baltimore Ravens in their biggest game of the season. Pittsburgh has shuffled their secondary depth charts all season long to account for poor play and a rash of injuries.
