During a Thursday, November 20, press conference, Toub, 63, was asked about the 79-year-old commander-in-chief’s remarks, and shared a pointed response.
AdvertisementAdvertisementAdvertisement“He doesn’t even know what he’s looking at. He has no idea what’s going on with the kickoff rule,” the NFL coach told reporters. “So I’m going to take that for what it’s worth. I hope he hears it.”
Earlier this month, Trump appeared on The Pat McAfee Show and weighed in on the change in kickoff rules, which began during the 2024 NFL season, aimed at reducing collisions during the play.

I hate the [new] kickoff in football,” Trump confessed. “I think it’s so terrible, I think it’s so demeaning, and I think it hurts the game. It hurts the pageantry. I told that to [NFL commissioner] Roger Goodell.”
AdvertisementAdvertisementAdvertisement“I don’t think it’s any safer. You still have guys crashing into each other,” he continued. “The ball is in the air, and nobody’s moving. It’s supposed to be when the ball is in the air, when the ball is played, you’re supposed to be moving. You walk in, and the pageantry of the game is so badly hurt.”
The billionaire also called out “the people that approve that,” noting he doesn’t “think anybody has the right to do that to the game.”
