Give me a lighthearted recap
Apple TV has released plenty of sci-fi shows over the last few years, but one that was cancelled after only one season has resurfaced at the top of streaming charts. Just last year, Apple ventured back to the sci-fi world with Constellation, the mind-bending series following an astronaut (Noomi Rapace) who comes back from Outer Space with memories that she can't piece together. Met with lukewarm reception upon its premiere, which only became more divisive as the season aired new episodes, Apple cancelled Constellation after one season. However, the show is having a comeback more than a year later, as it’s resurfaced in the top 10 on Apple TV in several countries around the world.
Fans were certainly taken aback at the decision to cancel Constellation after only one season, especially after showrunner Peter Harness was so open about his desires for a second season. Legendary author Stephen King was also a fan of the show, calling it “just about perfect,” but his praise wasn’t enough to convince Apple to greenlight another season. There are obvious financial concerns with a show partially set in space, and Apple ultimately decided that it could not justify making another season of the sci-fi show based on what it would cost.
The platform has plenty of other sci-fi hits for fans to enjoy, though, despite the axing of Constellation. The biggest new hit is Pluribus, which hails from The X-Files writer Vince Gilligan (Breaking Bad). The show has already shattered Severance’s record for most-watched new sci-fi series, and it’s still got several episodes left in Season 1 to continue breaking new ground. Other shows, such as Foundation and Invasion, are also available to stream on Apple TV.
What Else Is Streaming on Apple TV Right Now?
Apple TV, formerly known as Apple TV+, has plenty of great movies and TV shows to watch. In addition to the aforementioned Pluribus, some of the platform's other popular shows include The Last Frontier, The Morning Show, and Slow Horses, which all offer kicks for fans of different genres. Two Mark Wahlberg-led movies, The Family Plan and The Family Plan 2, are dominating Apple TV movie charts right now, but other films such as Highest 2 Lowest (Denzel Washington) and The Lost Bus (Matthew McConaughey) are giving them a run for their money.
Check out the first and only season of Constellation on Apple TV and stay tuned to Collider for more streaming updates.
