The Harry Potter TV show is set to bring back one of the most popular fictional wizards of all time, but this time through HBO. After the original Harry Potter movies, the small screen will now become a new home for the Boy Who Lived.

During his recent appearance on Saturday Mash-Up! Live, Dominic McLaughlin, who is set to portray the titular protagonist, gave a new update on how Harry Potter season 1 is coming along. The young star stated that it's “going amazing. It’s going really well. I’ve made good friends with everyone, it’s great to be there.”

Production has been underway since July 2025, as the Harry Potter cast is currently shooting the series in England. Filming is reportedly set to be done sometime in mid-2026.

Daniel Radcliffe, who brought Harry Potter to life in the original films, recently shared how he had reached out to McLaughlin to show his support for landing the massive role. Radcliffe revealed, during his appearance on Good Morning America on November 18, the following:

I wouldn’t say that anyone who is going to play Harry has to [reach out]. I know a few people who are working on the production, so I wrote to Dominic and I sent him a letter, and he sent me a very sweet note back. I just wanted to write to him to say, ‘I hope you have the best time, and an even better time than I did — I had a great time, but I hope you have an even better time. And I do, I just see these pictures of him and the other kids and I just want to hug them. They just seem so young. I just look at them and say, ‘Oh it’s crazy I was doing that.’ But it’s also incredibly sweet and I hope they’re having a great time.

During McLaughlin's Saturday Mash-Up! In a live appearance, he was asked about Radcliffe's letter, as the actor recalled that experience, saying, "It was insane." He continued by adding, “My Dad tapped me on the train and just gave me this letter. I read it and then I got to the bottom, and it said, ‘Dan R.’ I was going mad, but I had to [keep cool]. I was on the train.”

While the Harry Potter TV show has been working on season 1, future seasons are already being planned, as HBO looks to adapt one book per season. HBO’s Casey Bloys recently confirmed the filming plans for the upcoming seasons:

“The plan is to still try and get it — I don’t know if it’s going to be like stop shooting Season 1 on Friday and start Season 2 on Monday. There’ll be a break in there, but we’re going to do whatever we can to not have a huge gap,” Bloys told reporters during a press conference. “For the kids, obviously, but also for viewers. You know, trying to not have massive gaps. It is a big show, lots of special effects, obviously, massive operation, but we’re going to do what we can.”

HBO gave Harry Potter season 1 an eight-episode order, and while the show will premiere in 2027, the exact launch date will be revealed later.
