For the second consecutive season, the Winslow Township Eagles will be hoisting state championship hardware.

On Sunday afternoon at Rutgers University’s SHI Stadium, Winslow Township used a strong fourth quarter push to get by the Ramapo Raiders in a 34-21 victory for the NJSIAA Public Group 4 state championship.

With the Eagles only two losses on the season coming against nationally ranked IMG Academy and New Jersey power Bergen Catholic, Winslow Township showed once again why they’re a force to be reckoned with.

“Every year is different, I don’t think you can compare them,” Winslow Township head coach Bill Belton said to NJ.com after the game. “Last year we were dominant across the board. This year we took a big jump playing those two national teams to see where we were, and we went from there.”

On the Eagles’ second possession, they got on the scoreboard when junior quarterback Jalen Parker connected with wide receiver Quayd Hendryx (Minnesota commit) on a 88-yard touchdown pass.

Ramapo (11-2) would take the lead in the second quarter when senior running back Liam Hayward scored on a 34-yard scamper to go up 7-6.

Hendryx would answer the Raiders’ score by take the ensuing kickoff over 80 yards back to the house to put Winslow Township (12-2) right back ahead, 12-7. That would be the score heading into intermission and by the end of the third quarter, the Eagles would be up 18-14 and needing a spark in order to notch the repeat.

It would be Parker and NaKeem Powell both answering the bell in the final period, with both offensive standouts finding the endzone on scoring runs to push the Eagles ahead after trailing 21-18 in the fourth.
