De'Anthony Melton is nearing a return to the court. The Golden State Warriors guard tore his ACL on December 4, 2024. For the past year, he's been focusing on his rehab and getting his body back to a position where it can hold up against NBA-level competition and contact.

On Saturday, Nov. 29, the Warriors released a press statement, confirming that the talented guard is nearing his return and could be back on the floor before the end of the year. The upcoming three-game road trip has been earmarked as a potential stretch where Melton could be cleared to play and will begin to integrate back into Steve Kerr's rotation.

“Warriors guard De’Anthony Melton, who underwent surgery to repair a torn left ACL on December 4, 2024, continues to make good progress with his rehabilitation,” the Warriors announced. “He has fully participated in practice in recent days and continues to scrimmage in various settings. He will not play the remainder of this current homestand, but it is expected that he could be activated at some point during the team’s upcoming three-game road trip next week.”

Melton played six games for the Warriors before suffering his injury last season. In those games, he averaged 10.3 points, 2.8 assists and 3.3 rebounds, shooting 37.1% from deep and 40.7% from the field. His addition back into the rotation will be a significant boost for Golden State, as he provides some much-needed point-of-attack defense at the guard position and brings a diverse scoring profile to the table.

Melton will undoubtedly face competition for minutes this season, especially as Seth Curry is expected to sign with the franchise on Monday, Dec. 1. Nevertheless, his ability to play with and without the ball, along with his defense, should ensure Kerr finds some minutes. If Melton can stay healthy, his presence should be a legitimate boost for the 11-10 Warriors moving forward.
