The New York Mets and Texas Rangers exchanged Brandon Nimmo for Marcus Semien in a one-for-one swap.
That ended Nimmo's run as a Met, and they were the team who drafted him and the only team he had been with in his MLB career.

His longest tenure was with the Athletics, where he played from 2015 through the 2020 MLB season.
In 2025, Semien struggled, hitting just .230 with 15 home runs and 62 RBI in 127 games.
Despite an off year in 2025, Semien believes he can still contribute, per John Flanigan of SNY.
“I want to play until they tell me to go home,” he said. “At this point in my career it feels extremely good to have a team that believes in me, sees the things that I do well, and wants to help me -- offensively, I do think I still have a lot to offer."

“I’m disappointed in the way that I performed last year. Had a good start in 2024 and I think just having conversations with Jeff Albert, and I’m looking forward to talking to Troy Snitker about what I need to do to be that MVP-caliber bat in this lineup.”
It remains to be seen how much Semien will play with the Mets, although General Manager David Stearns said that Semien "balances our lineup from the right side, which is something we were seeking to do," via Jesse Rogers of ESPN.
The Mets are also involved in a lot of other discussions with free agency picking up. Of course, the biggest one is slugger Pete Alonso, who is expected to earn a big payday after a strong 2025 season.
Nonetheless, Semien brings a veteran presence to the clubhouse, and he is going to do what he can to turn things around in the 2026 season.
