Bayern Munich suffered its first defeat of the season on Wednesday, falling 3-1 to Arsenal at Emirates Stadium thanks to goals from Jurriën Timber, Noni Madueke, and Gabriel Martinelli.

Earlier this month, Vincent Kompany’s side edged past the defending champions PSG with a 2–1 win. Still, Bayern and Germany midfielder Joshua Kimmich felt that facing them brought a greater challenge and made for a fuller, more engaging match.

Kimmich described the Ligue 1 side as offering “more of a football game,” while Arsenal, he noted, “rely on set pieces” and “love to play long balls.”

“No, I don’t think so,” Kimmich told TNT Sport when asked if Arsenal were the toughest team Bayern had faced this year (h/t ESPN). “I think PSG was the toughest one. Especially the way they play.

“Arsenal is completely different. They rely on set pieces. They love to play long balls. They love to fight for second balls. It was a completely different game against PSG. It was more of a football game.

“[Wednesday] was not so much about football. It was more about game management and duels. Arsenal did this really well tonight. Their win was well deserved but we have to learn from this game.”

After PSG fell to Bayern Munich on Matchday 4, the Parisians bounced back on Matchday 5 with a come-from-behind 5-3 win over Tottenham Hotspur, who they beat for the second time this season after defeating them in the UEFA Super Cup in August.
