The Arizona Cardinals announced a roster move on Friday, presumably preparing for a player activation on Saturday. Outside linebacker Xavier Thomas, drafted in the fifth round in 2024, was released.
Thomas was at the back of the depth chart at outside linebacker behind Josh Sweat, Baron Browning, Zaven Collins, Jordan Burch and BJ Ojulari. Browning is back after clearing concussion protocol, so Thomas' spot was no longer needed.

This move likely precedes a player being activated from injured reserve. Running back Trey Benson has been designated to return and has been practicing, but he was ruled out of the team's game on Sunday, so he won't be activated.
They also have offensive linemen Hayden Conner and Christian Jones designated to return. One of them could be activated this weekend.
The Cardinals will announce other roster moves Saturday afternoon.
