At the start of the season, the New York Jets' wide receiver room was fairly bleak.

It featured Garrett Wilson, who's a star, of course, but outside of him it was a list of yourneymen who weren't capable of being No. 2 or in some cases No. 3 options.

But at the trade deadline, the Jets took a few fliers on two young wide receivers, John Metchie III and Adonai Mitchell. Since then, the position group has gotten markedly better, and each has contributed a lot in the few games they've played in New York.

Metchie, in particular, was the subject of offensive coordinator Tanner Engstrand at his Friday press conference.

"Metchie's showed me a lot - dedication, grit, willingness to take information and run with it. And we obviously saw production the last couple of weeks with a couple of touchdowns and some good catches and run after catch last week," Engstrand told the media.

"He's shown me a lot. I'm really impressed with him so far and I'm looking forward to him continuing to improve as he grows within the system."

Since arriving at the Jets from a trade with the Philadelphia Eagles, Metchie has hauled in 10 catches for 113 yards and two touchdowns, with both scores coming over the last two games.

Thanks to general manager Darren Mougey's savvy trades, New York has turned a weakness into a strength and has built out a serviceable receiver room, especially when Wilson comes back into the fold.
