Stranger Things season 5, volume 1, has been released on Netflix on November 26 and has already people clamoring for more. Gaten Matarazzo, known for playing Dustin Henderson, has detailed how it was to live with his co-star for a year.
On the Dinner’s on Me podcast, Matarazzo spoke to Modern Family’s Jesse Tyler Ferguson about his experience living with his Stranger Things co-star Finn Wolfhard, who plays Mike Wheeler on Netflix’s sci-fi series. The co-stars lived together for a year, and Matarazzo didn’t hold back in sharing what it was like:
"It was a little bit of a college experience. I would look around three months after we lived together and [be] like, ‘This place is disgusting.’"
Despite the untidiness, Matarazzo and Wolfhard had a strong bond, but unfortunately, it became the root of their messy accommodation. "We match each other’s energy a little bit. We got along so well and had been so close for so long that we didn’t really hold each other to a standard. So we were like, ‘Ah, f--k it. Whatever, man. We’ll get to it later," stated Matarazzo.
However, the state of their mess came to a head when the pair wanted to make plans during breaks while filming the final season of Stranger Things. Matarazzo stated, "We would plan to go out, and somebody would be like, ‘Alright, we’ll meet you at yours.’ Both of us would be like, ‘No. Do not come [within] 10 feet [of] our home.’"
The Stranger Things duo didn’t live in squalor for long and, fortunately, got better at keeping the place presentable towards the end of their living situation, and luckily, they are still very close friends.
The final season of Stranger Things started strong, as fans are eagerly awaiting more episodes before the epic conclusion on December 31. Matarazzo and Wolfhard began the series nearly a decade ago, and Stranger Things became a global phenomenon.
Matarazzo has also appeared in other projects, including Haunted Hotel, The Angry Birds Movie 2, and Les Misérables: The Broadway Musical as Gavroche. He will also appear in another TV series titled Ghostbusters: Ecto Force, and an untitled BriTANick Pizza movie.
Wolfhard is also known for his music career as he’s the frontman of the band, The Aubreys. While he’s been focusing on his music, the actor has also appeared in several projects, including It, Ghostbusters: Afterlife, and Guillermo del Toro’s Pinocchio. Wolfhard is expected to appear in new projects, including the TV series New-Gen and Crash Land.
