The time is now for No. 3 Texas A&M (11-0, 7-0 SEC), as the Aggies are one win away from making the SEC Championship Game for the first time in program history, set to face the No. 16 Texas Longhorns (8-3, 5-2 SEC) on Friday night for the second consecutive season.

This rivalry, going back to 1894, has been mostly one-sided, as the Longhorns currently lead 77-37-5, but won 12 out of 16 matchups from 1984 to 1999. Again, Texas has dominated the series with six consecutive wins in the early 2000s, but before the 13-year drought, both teams traded wins, including A&M's 24-17 win in Austin in 2010.

This history is essential, but this Texas A&M team has lofty goals and is already a lock for the College Football Playoff. In contrast, Texas has a minimal chance of making the CFP even if they defeat the Aggies at home, but I highly doubt the Longhorns will be included unless Alabama, Ole Miss, and Utah lose this weekend.

For head coach Mike Elko, this is just another wall that he's looking to bust through after checking several boxes this season, including road wins over Notre Dame, LSU, and Missouri that solidified the Aggies' postseason standing.

Texas A&M's offense, led by starting quarterback Marcel Reed and transfer wide receivers KC Concepcion and Mario Craver, will need to find the end zone early. In contrast, the Aggies' pass rush, which has produced 39 sacks this season, needs to pressure Texas QB Arch Manning and take advantage of the Longhorns' susceptible offensive line.
